So Roddy, have you retired the Les Pauls? I must admit i liked the look of the Penguins when you played Cardiff last November and the Deusenberg made an appearance; very 'ansome! I was looking at one the other week, an 'Outlaw' thats covered in Tolex. Looked nice but felt a bit dead when i tried it unplugged.

I can't remember, does yours have the double 'buckers or the bucker in the bridge and P-90 in the neck? While we are on the subject, do you have a preferred string gauge? I've been using 0.10's for as far back as i can remember but i found that the bottom 'E' slipped off the top of the neck when i get 'enthusiastic' so i tried 0.09's for a bit more tension but they did'nt feel right so i went up to 0.11's which feel great and give an excellent tone. Still getting used to them so my left hand aches a little after a lot of playing. I must add that i'm sticking with 0.10's on the Tele but the LP, SG and PRS are all 0.11's now.

Sorry Roddy, i was talking about your Deusenbergs when asking about the pickup's. You Black beauty LP, is it the one in the pictures with the 'Skabilly Rebels' sticker between the pickups? Is it the same one that used to have the black 'n' white checkerboard sticker near the pickguard?

No the one i used in the early Specials which took me three years playing workingmens clubs too get i sold in the mid 80,s when i was back on the Dole. I bought a 58 re-issue in the mid 90,s. The old one was a early 70,s with humbuckers, that Nevelle split the neck on when he broke some N.F. Skinheads arm at a Specials gig about 1980?

Some of the more recent LP's are chambered and/or weight relieved. My Double Cut is weight relieved and it tipping the scales at 5Ibs but i've no pickups or tuning machines on it at the moment. Not very wearing for me but, then again, i've not been bounding round a stage wearing it for the past 35 years! Might be time for an SG?
