I'm current looking for a copy of the single 'You Don't Know Like I Know' by Keith Powell & Billie Davis. This was originally done by Sam & Dave. Anyway, after failing to find a copy of the single on netsounds, ebay, etc I asked Mr. Google. He came up with this page - lyricsplayground.com/alpha/songs/y/youdontknowlikeiknow.shtmlAnd while it didn't help me find the record I'm after it does say that The Specials recorded a version of this song. I was just wondering what album it's on? As I'm pretty sure I've never heard The Specials covering this tune. And if anyone wants to hear the Keith & Billie version it's up on YouTube - uk.youtube.com/watch?v=gwCVDjyoMmo

It's on the MkII album 'Skinhead Girl. I think you might recognise the vocalist, eh roddy?

Yep one of the tunes we covered for Trojan with some Specials. This track like a couple more i did as a guide for Nevelle but he didnt want to do it so my vocal version stayed! I prefer the original* but i suppose my ones okay.. The Selecter had already done two C.D,s of the Trojan back catalogue and we got the scrappings of the barrel! But saying that theres about three or four on both C.D,s of our efforts which i thought came out okay. It was really a Roger Lomas (producer) money making excercise, and as we were all broke we shamefully went for Duh Cash!

Thanks for the info. Must admit I had forgotton all about the 'Skinhead Girl' album. Seems a few ska bands have covered that track over the years although I've only heard The Pioneers cover so far.

I thought "Skinhead girl" worked in a sorta mod "Who" fashion?

Yeah, I thought it had a British soul feel to it as well. From the name and the label I expected a hackneyed blue-beat type thing, but was pleasantly surprised.

I love the Skinhead Girl album- some great versions there. Love 'Old man Say'.'Bangerang Crash' and 'Jezebel'- better album than 'Conquering Ruler' in my eyes.

Skinhead girl C.D. was recorded first then we had to scrape the underside of the barrel for Bonkering Crueler*

Ta. I doubt you'll expand on what they fell out about, so I won't ask.
While I'm asking such questions: which Specials played on Rancid's 'Hooligans'? I reckon you and Nev.
If you tell me I'll put the kettle on.

Earl Grey..tea spoon of honey honey* Yep the MK2 Specials split was grouchy.. Nev,n,Lyn were asked to do backin vocals on Hooligans..i found out? i wasnt told? so i insisted i go along as i liked their stuff and being an x punk fancied havin a beer with the boys* Well they had gone straight edged.. due too over doin things after their major succes in the U.S.A. Well they said they would send out for some beer meanwhile our manager took me to a local bar.. When got back Tim suggested i might like to play guitar on the track! would i! Anyway by this time the beer had arrived and with the several shots ild had at the local i was feelin pretty punky* They passed me an Epiphone Les Paul covered in stickers..being juiced ,n, not knowing who was who in the band..i slagged the guitar off ,n, asked had they got a real one (Gibson) not knowing it was Lars guitar..anyway did the intro and a little section later in the tune and enjoyed myself.. Lars got me back on the Warp tour when i was hung over and feelin sorry for myself.. But i still think Rancid are one of the best American punk bands (i know Lars lived in England as he played with my mate Pete Davies in the U.K. SUBS)

Hi sugar
Good guess with you and Nev, quietly pleased with myself there!
How did Lars get you back?
I guess if you know Pete Davies that you probably know Charlie Harper too. Top man, let me have a Subs shirt for half price when I was skint because a bonehead ripped the one I was wearing. I wish he was MY grandad.

I think I met someone who drummed for the Subs. He was a Welshman.
