Steady matey! Yeah know what yer mean , ive spent hours trying to explain why the band split up,why we never made much cash, why i drive a secoud hand car.. and up until recently why we werent reforming. Its funny mostly they just stare vacantly and dont listen, because you are not saying what they want to hear. I joined a band to play guitar ,n, sing not to be a social worker to people who if i wasnt a member of a certain Ska group would probably enjoy re-arrangin my face..

Nothing disturbing apart from a case of cyber-Tourettes Syndrome mixed with a bit of cyber-Primal Scream therapy. Thats what they all say!
Polite responses, no responses (unforgivable) and vacant smiles from superstars. But giving people change people. If my kids turn out like Ian Hunter (Mott The Hoople), Mick Jones (Clash), Glen Matlock (Pistols), yourself (Skabillys)...I've done a good job! Wait a minute, they're all guitarists!?

re:loonie's question about how many instruments her son should play
I think your son will feel it out himself and go with whatever he feels best... I learned how to play a few instruments when I was younger and each one helped me understand the other better... but once he finds his favorite, he may want to stick with that one as his main instrument...
re:fredperry's post about "This Specials thing is all getting a bit too showbizzy"
I never understood how fans could be so supportive of their favorite musician/band one minute, and then turn around and complain or despise them the next. The argument being that the musician/band is now too successful... or as some call it "selling out..."
Wasn't "success" part of the overall plan? Did people hate John Lennon because he was writing music and supporting his family? If he stopped writing after The Beatles, we wouldn't have had "Imagine."
Don't we all want success in our own careers? How come it's so wrong for musicians to do what they love (music) and support their families at the same time?
And if they don't have time to sit down and have a drink with us, or reply back, is that what really matters? Is that why we are fans? Because an artist will spend "quality" time with us...? I've never spent quality time with John Lennon (R.I.P. December 8, 1980) and I still love and support his music.
It's kind of weird that some fans want so much control over other people's lives... What's with all of the complaints? Why not let people just be and enjoy the music for what it is?
Meanwhile, people change over time, regardless if they are famous or not.. Life is about change... That's why people get divorced and lose touch with "old" friends... The world keeps turning...

I was commenting about my years of experiences around showbiz types and the media, not The Specials themselves. If anything, the bullRather nasty smelly stuff that anyone in their situation (or anyone around their situation) has to live around when theres large groups of people. Dignity. Ive nothing against success. This dumbed-down world needs to hear their message. Selling out? My opinions on the Specials have always been the same for 28 years and won't change as I won't allow myself to get too close in real life with me 'eroes! No real interest in what people are like in real life (unless they're rude to me) - everyones got their good sides and bad sides. No ones wonderful. Objective. Peace and love.
