All great bands end up at some point with a rarities and b-sides album, though the Specials have had that honour ... i did'nt think STEREOTYPICAL had many real rarities on it at all. I think a good album of Specials Rarities would include the sessions which bore .. Sweet Revenge,96 Tears, Why?(original) and Wear you to the ball (not the remixed version)etc .. add them to some choice live tracks or Demos which have never seen the light of day on disc unless on bootleg....namely where guests like Rhoda joined the Specials onstage. Horace talks about some tracks and occasions like this in his book.
No Sweet Revenge was from T.W studios where the first album ( differant time period) was recorded and Racist friend was from a studio Brad and Hampton Wick Cuthal booked in Kings Cross cant remember the name?
Yep Rod .. it'd be great to see a ' real ' rarities cd released, something along the lines of that Johnny Kidd cd i sent you ages ago ...alternate versions, rare live tracks, remixes, unreleased demos etc...
By the way, i never told you that despite being unable to play any musical instrument ...i used to write lyrics years ago in my spare time. Sent one song to Dammers ...never heard anything, he probably thought it was Hong Kong Phoeye or never got it. Unfortunately i lost the lyrics years ago.... i wrote three songs in all... not exactly prolific..lol
Ha ha yes ... i was about 17 at the time and the songs were socially and politically ' HEAVY ' .... i can only remember snippets of the lyrics.......... one bloke advertising for lyric writers in Sounds wanted to buy one song off me for a phony contract....told him to sling his hook and never bothered after that...
One of my best friends dad looked the dead spit of Swiss Tony.... i used to give him hell extracting the urine when the Fast Show was on..... its still his nickname now !! .... to compound it he was a real womaniser as well !! Anyway as Jesse would say ... '' Today i 'ave been mostly listening to Sandie Shaw''
