Yep i love Sandie Shaw...still think ' Message Understood ' is one of the best pop songs ever ... i did like her later Hello Angel Album about 20 years ago i think ... had that Hand in Glove Smiths cover version on it.... i used to like Johnny Marrs guitar style.

Yeah heard her version of Hand in glove, nice! I got into the Smiths rather late , terrible to say this but his voice reminded me of Terrys even tho they are completely differant really? And at that time i refused to listen to current music radio or T.V , i just listened to old rock,n,roll-Blues and country for ten yrs!

I can reccomend Sandie's LP from 1969 called "Reviewing The Situation". It has some strange choice of Covers, Led Zepplins "Your Time Is Gonna Come" , making Sandie the first person to cover Led Zep, The Stones "Sympathy for the Devil", Dylan, Donnovan, Rufus Thomas and more. Sandie has at times disowned the LP and at other times got really enthusiastic about it, I love it. Saw her at Warwick Uni around the time of "Hand in Glove", her band were basically the Joboxers ( Who were Ex Subway Sect.... Bernie Rhodes at work here.)minus the singer. She mainly did songs from the Hello Angel LP. She Still had a great singing voice.

Dig Wayne, the singer was in the billy band Buzz and the Flyers before he joined the Joboxers, the other members were all part of a later version of Subway Sect (Managed by Bernie Rhodes). It was Bernie that hooked them up together and sort of mis managed them. Dig Wayne has a new rockabilly CD out that you can here sound samples of here www.rock-a-billy.biz/_bands/digwayne.html

Richard Hawley even had an audition to join his band but Morrissey did not like the fact he smoked!!! Was the reason for not listening to current music a kick back against your experiences in the Specials or was their other reasons?

Rod i liked the Joboxers, though i don't think the most of the public quite ' got ' them for some reason, really liked their debut album, similar energy to the Specials.................Which brings me to a question inspired by Horace's Tuna sarnies with Debbie Harry story in his book. Apparently Debbie Harry wanted The Specials to back her on THE TIDE IS HIGH ... a mag article says the Specials refused !! ... Was that a unanimous decision ?, i would imagine performing behind Debbie Harry ( Heh heh, pun intended !! ) to be quite an appealing proposition ? Daz

Yep Debbie Harry want us to back her-guess who said no. I know i was keen as i loved Blondies first two albums and still do. The reason i stopped listening was mainly the new romantic stuff which to me was what Bowie and Roxy music had done alot better years before, also i hated the whole music bizzness system from my time in the Specials.

Yeh i remember you telling me about the snog from Debbie when i saw you in Paignton last....same night you told a funny story about SJ ... but i won't repeat it. Well i kinda guessed who said no to Tide is High.. but imagine what a picture sleeve or TOTPS classic that would have been.... funnily enough i just watched a DVD of Blondies 1983 farewell performance.....but one of my favourites is the Detroit 442 video ... yep the one where Debs is leaping up and down in what looks like underwear and hold ups !! Oh Wendy James used to do it for me as well ....
