Howya doing lads I'm new here. I was wondering about the Specials board myself its down alright. Roddy I love all your music Specials or solo seen the Skabillys in Dublin a while back. I'm into the old ska but punk, rockabilly, blues, jazz whatever is good. I saw you post about what Specials fans expect ie the glad rags on stage. Who cares its 2009 and we're not mods:) I always hated being told by rudies/skins what to wear or not to go to punk gigs. I hate the small minded people that can follow these scenes.
As for all that boyband/X factor music business we need a new sex pistols type band to kick them all in the b@lls

I dont think the bizzness would allow anything real to get thru now,a,days.. Its like the rap stuff or Indie bands they smother the scene with imatators so it dies and they can get back to controlable twaddel..

Selfish I know, but I really don't care now - I got to see Punk as a 18 year old and Two Tone as a 20 year old. I consider myself as one of the lucky ones (in musical terms) I got to see and hear two seperate and groundbreaking music eras. I'll probably get shot down by the younger ones on here for saying this but I can take it

Top 40 is for is for people too lazy or depressed to listen to anything else. Well i like to listen to the radio and the top40 dictates whats played, So maybe doing away with a top40 would be the answer.

I love radio, when the DJs actually have an interest and were choosing the cuts from different albums; but that was the old days of FM before corporate control.

Hugh, Is Canadian FM as dire as it is generally all over the States or is yours better?

Driving across Canada and the USA, you would have trouble discerning where you were by the similar radio formats and yattering disc monkeys across the continent: SILK FM - Easy Listening, Classical Rock, Top 40, Oldies etc., and all playing the same tunes scattered among the commercials. Radio used to be so interesting and exciting. You could be turning the dial late at night in Vancouver, and get some cool album tracks or maybe a bellowing Southern minister shouting about sin and debauchery. If you know Steinbeck's novel 'Travels with Charley', he comments on the great homogenizing of America in that.

funny thing about driving from states to states. you can be in the middle of nowhere and there seems no signs of life. as you turn the dials there is always a mexican station coming through and very clear. not just one station either, several in fact. found this out driving to washington, across nevada, across the desert, southern ca, arizona and oregon.

That was some drive, but those "desert States" are just so beautiful and by enlarge unspoilt by us humans I didn't do all that driving within a year. Through out my life. I have driven to Las Vegas twice and I love it. The desert is really lovely with it's shadows, the mountains, the desert plants, the lizards and so on. The bad thing is that they are developing so much in Vegas that the peaks on the mountains are being cut off. Looks odd, a flat top? But nothing beats seeing the grand canyon.... BREATHLESS.....
