I hope we never do, although there is some school of thought saying that this recession has been artificically created to devalue the pound and bring wages down so that entering the Euro will be easier. Or am I being a conspiracy thoerist again???. I have to stop reading David Ickes website.

We should never have dropped out of the ERM when we did, like most things though it will bounce back.
I can remember getting 2 euros to the pound now it's only just above parity it hurts when I go to France.
but I have also been to the states when it's been two dollars to the pound and just about parity.
All I know a lot of people make a lot of money out of the swings in currency and mugs like me pay the price

Don't know about the rest of Europe but Fance of old used to be great for food both from the supermarkets and resturants.
Now it seems that food is more expensive there than here, some of it is obviously down to the current exchange rate but I think France is no longer the great place it once was for food.
Still a great place to visit though, just Scooby Doo expensive now

quite understandable, It sounded like a rough exerience to go through but what a song to come out of it.
I used think the same way (as a youth) about it untill I'd been a few times but eventally realised my experiences & feelings didn't match up to the reality of of my stereotyipical views of the country.
I think the same thing applies to most countries, in most cases, our thoughts about any given country are not based on the truth just the media forced preconceptions we all have.
Vive la France ;D
