Do you sit down and make a determined effort to write? Or do song ideas come at unpredictable random moments? What produces a better song - happy times/sad times/quiet times/busy times?

Desire ...em well it was about the American model i left my wife for in the final days of the original Specials 1981.. she was on a U.K. T.V. advert hence "shes in the window" but i changed it to be about a shop dummy -manaquin (smellings) From great pain etc etc... You rarely write songs when yer happy*

They're good at sending Redcoats packing. ;D Yes, they stuffed it all in their Samsonite carry-alls and headed back over the sea. Now I spend time chatting with them online

BUT about songwriting... Roddy, have you ever written a song that made you think, "This would be THE country music crossover tune"?
Also, what cover version of one of your songs caused you the most surprise &/or distress?

Alot of my songs sound country when i first write them on accoustic guitar* Well i wish ild written a few more comercial songs then i would of made a little more cash. The Rude Bones from Japan did a version of "Rat Race" which i found slightly amusing (sorry guys) There was a band in the early 80s who did my song "Lorriane" and Rebbecca their girl singer made it sound like a lesbian love song which was a little differant*

So was the version of Lorriane surprising or distressing? Looked for the Rude Bones cover & couldn't find it- can only imagine...

LORRIANE SOUNDED SEXY.. A BLOKE THING.. Rebbecca was and is a beautiful blonde who was going out with my drummer at the time Pete Davies. Maybe the Rude Bones have split up?
