The best thing I've heard (recorded) this year are the Specials bootlegs that have been doing the rounds.
from a live perspective (apart from the obvious) it's a toss up between the Scabs & Pauline Black - both at Hootanny funnily enough and even more amazing, I rate those two above Madstock
Did not what to expect from either really. However, both made me wish I'd stuck with the progam, instead of pretty much saying sod it to music when the Specials split.

for you or me?
It wasn't just the Specials it was the whole 2Tone thing - Madness going "pop" The Selecter, The Bodysnachers & the Beat hitting the rocks. Bad Manners shedding members left right & centre.
The only thing I had left was UB40 to keep me going and even that waned after a while.
The only thing that stopped me going to see the Tearjerkers was that the Special AKA was stilll bumbling along and the Fun Boys were about. I wasn't really a rockabilly person and thought it wasn't for me.
For you, it sounds like a typical Specials fan, if it ain't Ska stylee then no thanks, but for me, the tag "rockabilly" was enough for me to give the Tearjerkers a miss.
With hindsight - a pathetic reason not to go see them and hear them, but there you go
oh sorry................. I got a bit carried away there.

Its been a great year for me, I dont think I can narrow it down too one thing, I met alot of musical heroes this year and saw so many brilliant gigs. Ive discovered Kate Bush this past year along with Willie Nelson.................but as I say I cant narrow it down

Never liked the term "Rock,a,billy" its just lazy journalism.. The Tearjerkers were a Country/Punk/Ska/Rock,n,roll band*
