Having heard on the radio the other day that a gang of Albanian pickpockets who had targetted "The specials comeback tour" due to "singling out gigs where people would mosh", I was wondering if any of you lot had had a bad experience with a pickpocket?, I say this as last night in Camden Town I became a victim, the most annoying thing was that I didnt feel a thing and thought my wallet would be safe in my chest pocket. So from the 100 yard walk from the chip shop over the road to the Jazz cafe some gang went and nicked everything, my bank cards, my driving licence and more importantly my train and tube passes. I spent most of the next few hours missing the Pama International gig at Kentish Town cop shop reporting the crime and trying to beg some money to get home, needless to say the police were as helpful as brakes on a snail.
The happy ending to all this was that I have relatives in London albeit "sarf of the river" who came and collected me at midnight and lent me some dosh to get home with. I have spent all morning cancelling cards and trying to report my driving licence as stolen but typically "the system is experiencing technical difficulties try again later" from the DVLA phoneline.
So Im home, 14 hours late, a little poorer and have a nasty taste left in my mouth from my latest experience from the Big smoke.
Rant over............I need a drink.

Sorry to hear about your wasted night. Happened to me on Oxford Street in those crowds you get at every pedestrian crossing - an Eastern European . She wasn't quite as smart though and l did get my wallet back - after threatening to knock her Arnold Chicken Shortsing head off her shoulders.Which was a stupid thing for me to say as l have arms like knotted string and couldn't punch a flea.

Well walkin to the Taxi rank at peace with world mannn.. when i passed some young black youths.. they said something to me ..so i said alright guys - next thing i know im surrounded and dodgin kicks ,n, punches.. tried mentioning every black guy i knew but they were from the wrong generation... well one of them got my wallet.. a lizard skin one a fan had given me in the 80,s with my driving licence in and about 30 quid.. i reported it the police did the usual statements down the cop shop and never heard nuthin for years.. then i got a phone call asking me did i know so ,n, so? as they had arrested this young black guy for burgalary and had found my drivin licence at his flat.. well i explained about the mugging not once but twice on the phone and they came round to interview me.. very efficent until i realized they were trying to tie me in as this guys accomplis! Thats one of my 4 muggings/beatings stories in the Ghost Town.

Its never happened to me and I consider myself to be very lucky in that respect.
Having said that, being a Skinhead in my youth meant that most "normal" people would give you a wide berth for no other reson than the way you appeared.
Its also quite likely (in my opinion) that the ones who were likely to mug/beat/attack/hassle you left me alone cos I didn't look a soft enough target for them.
That is not to belittle in any way those that have been attacked or found themselves in a mugging situation, I am sure that had I not been dressed the way I was, lots of things could have happened to me given the places I went, but that is just a personal obervation.

I can handle a mugging it gives you a chance to fight back, ive had 1 attempted mugging happen to me in the past and I fought them off, I ended up nicking their cash and smashing the get away cars window, pickpocketing is so cowardly...........

I've not experienced being pick pocketed, perhaps I too have that look where people just move out of my way. Argh... grrr....
