Pama do give away alot of free tickets to get the crowd in, I cant see them making much out of touring. Still they are a mighty fine band. Ive done a couple of SKA nights in my local, it was great to start with good crowds as you say, but after about 3 times I was losing money as the numbers went down even though I wasnt playing all the same tracks like some nights I have attended where the D.Js are using th esame tracklisting.

the ska crowd isnt as big as everyone thinks it is. yeah you can get 8,000 to see The Specials but not all of those are diehard ska fans. Thats where the problem lies- there isnt enough numbers to go around ona regular basis .its pockets of support in certain parts of the country- but not enough to generate massive interest. The Ska Splash Festival wasnt that well attended and that featured EVERY known band including Prince Buster and Symarip. Dont be put off its just the truth of the matter and a bit of harsh reality and stuff you need to take into consideration. I appreciate anyone who has a go, its positive so like I said- good luck with it.

Yeah, I've seen a few ska nights come and go very quickly in Los Angeles...there are a total of three or four now, I work photography for two of the nights...the promoters bust serious butt to keep it going. They can only afford to hold these nights two or three times a month, and one of the venues doesn't even have a dance floor! I do my photography for free at these gigs just to help get some visuals out there for people to see so they can come out and keep these nights alive. It's a tough row, but one I'm happy to help out with.

Thanks you lot,
Despite your warnings I am still gonna have a go - but It's only going to be a one off, If I manage to get as far as talking to bands for real.
It will have to be Nev or the billys because I will need the motivation to keep it moving when it will be easier to call it a day
Is October clear on the Shells front Roddy?

If I was going to be involved in hiring a band for an event, it would only be a one off and would have to be the billys or Nev as well. Also, my approach would be to find enough people who were willing to split the costs, get all the money sorted out first, and then go ahead. My motto is pay first, then enjoy. It's a very slow and long winded approach, but it's thorough and ensures a good time is had by all.
You don't like Discos? Well I personaly would go further than that. All the, girls are... And the beer tastes just like PISH. Or have they gone up market since. I don't know, I don't go. I won't dance, in etc etc. Pay on the door, get murdered by a big, BIG! MONKEY MAN! Not to mention that the stuff they describe as "music" in those places is utter s.h.i.t.e. End of rant.

Given the current political climate, with Israels military blockade on Gaza, and the sabotage of the relief flotilla, that silence is complicity in the atrocities commited against 1.5 million Gazans, I would say the likelyhood of the Specials performing in the States are zilch. But there will be more relief ships setting sail for Gaza. Jah will find a way. I am not afraid of Israel. I am up for lifting the seige on Gaza.

I respect your view & belief, occupation, but if every band protested my government's policies by not touring the U.S., there'd be nothing but crickets playing here. Roddy said it so I'll believe it 'til I hear differently.

Yeah, I've been behaving myself by being silent, but as another United States person on here, I gotta say something. Pfiff is right, and I'm always grateful to the musicians making the jump across the pond to be here, no matter the insanity going on in our government, and vice-versa to the musicians here who tour the world to entertain the people stuck in other bad government climates. Plus...come on, RODDY said they're coming here in October, and he'd be a preeeeeetty reliable source of information about the Specials' touring schedule, right? Sheesh. All right, back to my attempts to force caffeine down my atStrawberry Sauceude...
