Its a bit odd seeing the same band on the same tour, often two nights in a row, must get a big groundhog day like.
I'm with you once a year or less but I've ended up with tickets for two gigs coz I couldn't get the ones I wanted, so picked another venue and then was gonna sell one lot n been tempted into going to them both, I think its a Sunday and then Friday....

I saw the Sex Pistols 7 times in 2 weeks and Ive seen the Da mned for 3 weeks solid, yes it can get abit samey, but to be honest it becomes more than just seeing the band, it becomes a sociable thing, you meet so many great people. Plus you get to see alot of the country that you wouldnt normally see. So it would be abit of travel, living out of a suitcase, every night a party, fantastic days.

Thats it - you have hit the nail on the head, in the Eighties I used to go see any 2Tone associated band at what ever place they were playing in town and then go home.
Now it's not just about the Specials, yes the band is the focal point and the reason we are there but the social aspect is a major point for going to venues out of your locale.
I went to 10 gigs on the last tour but in each of them it involved a pre gig meet with fellow giggers and a sort of "oops we better go to the gig now or we'll miss it" type atStrawberry Sauceude.
It's almost like the Specials have given us a reason to have a party - not 100% true but there are lots of things that make up a gig for everyone.
When we did the RAH pre gig party the day started at 9am - getting on the tube and setting the Hand & flower up, the pre gig started at 2pm and ran to 8pm. people left the pre gig at various points of the day but for most it was leaving as late as they dared before setting off for the gig, the gig itself was over in what seemed like a flash in comparison to the other events of the day.
Plus you also have to add into the equation that the tour was sold as a 30th anniversary thing - it was never mentioned at the time it was going to continue for three years. So for a lot of people it was thought of as last chance saloon in terms of seeing the Specials.

Ironically, the obsessive nature of the business, which such bands as the Specials showed disdain toward, has become the tool the new management exploits.

I get a lot of what your saying TTN and I think thats why I am happy to go and see the Specials twice this time, as the reason I wanna go to one gig in particular is the social side and fab looking pre/post gig, which I will be seeing you at n hopefully introduce myself I also do feel that there is at times a bit too much of an obsessive thing going on with the specials but I totally get why n where that comes from so I ain't wanting to criticise, just I wouldn't n couldn't take it that far myself....
