Tribute bands killed the scene.. no ones takin chances.. aint they just!!!!!!!!!!!!! that and people/bands taking money of obscene amounts whilst playing to a crowd of Arnold Chicken Shortsin 20 people!!! What makes me laugh/ want to cry is that a local pub would rather put on a tribute to the Specials, rather than one of the original members bands. Too me that dosent make a lot of sense. Mind you I was chatting to a band from Scotland the other week when I was a dee jayin (pop pickers) and he said that some pubs in London are charging new bands to play in their venues, that cant be right at all. He also said some promoters arent really promoters they are just middle men collecting the lions share of the moeny and not doing very much at all to promote the gigs in the first place.

Me Nevelle ,n, Horace would sometimes collect the cash after shows in the M.K.2 Specials. One gentlemen and two geezers! Did anyone ever refuse to pay up?, I suppose they took one look at you lot and thought, "hmmmn, Im used to having my kneecaps in the middle of my legs, Id like to keep them there". I remember J*** rock world in Manchester on tour with a certain band and the owner refused to pay up saying there were only 100 people in the room, when clearly it was more like 500, he was taken aside by the tour manager and had it explained to him very nicely that "he better pay up now" or "you can say goodbye to your fingers". The chap suddenly found the money in his pocket.....what a nice bloke!!!.

Well in ther early M.K.2 Specials we would count the punters when we were on a percentage. I remember Roger Lomas (tour manager) when we played in Sweden having to make himself scarce after collecting the dosh as the owner was looking for him....

It's got nothing to do with me Stu, obviously, but this behavior infuriates me - it's not so much the promoter taking the money a band is offering, every one has bills to pay and money to make, what gets me hopping mad is the fact that when money is dangled in font of promoters they completely forget the "support" others have offered their events over the years and go with the money without a thought for the bands that have got then where they are today. then when things return to the way they were, expect people/bands to jump at the chance to play at their event again for not very much. You are so right Stu - it's well wrong

Well to be honest, it needs to come to a halt after the next tour or it will turn into a cartoon of itself without new work and i dont wanna see it go down the tribute route for the next 10 years. There has to be some way balance is restored and artists like yourself who are writing, playing their own original material gets the upper hand again, it must come round.SURELY! it is you and you're kind that should be being paid your worth not 2 bit s-h-i-t-e ska charlies who people/punters rave on about like they are the original artists when they are in fact lost in their midlife crisis dreams of youth!

It seems Ska is back in fashion but unless someone has some hits it will quickly go back to cult status, hope Pauline ,n, Gapps chart*

I agree and with you both, It would be good to see PB & Gaps chart, as well as Charley Anderson who has done some great things over the past couple of years as have the Skabs.
The Specials do need to stop or start recording to keep it all going. It is still about live music though, chart success for most still comes after the hard slog that is touring.

I think SKA is going out of fashion, it seems Synths are back, the sound of the late 70s early 80s Tubeway Army and Human League seems to be what bands are doing now according to my radio. Maybe the Specials need to throw away their guitars and play a moog?. Well stick around Tez has probably ordered one to go with the strings...........which I still cant get over.
