You little muso you .. I saw paul Kossoff , Mick Ronson, Peter Green , Ariel Bender and several other teenage heros and they usually played Gibsons. Even tho fenders stay in tune better! I was hoping to get a Gretch White Penquin if the Spareshells reformed !!! They are Gretchs answer to the Les Paul-shape wise- very flash lookin art deco even. Amps ive tried them all lad..but i keep going back to the Vox A.C 30 top boost-as used by the Troggs, Beatles,Rory Gallahger and most 60,s beat combos. Guitar solos- were have yer got a month or so.. Love the solo on 2468 motorway , Hi-ho silver lining, oh dear ill be showing my age now if i dont stop! Drummer- well drummers are usually er tempermental chaps..Brad of course for the way he could switch from rock to reggae- Aitch Bembridge for his rockers reggae feel, Topper was the man too! and my new drummer Bear cause he owes me money.. Producer? well engineers are more use really, Dave Jordan-great bloke shame hes gone. I quite like having a go myself if the engineers good. cheers Stevo
Roddy just checked out the Gretsch.....A very cool looking number indeed.......the price........Phew....IN MY DREAMS....Hope you get yours though....would'nt you be a bit nervous of it getting damaged?
hi Stevo, i had a 1965 sky blue fender strat which i swopped for a gretch as it didnt feem right but like all those gits you trade-in on others i wish ild kept it. Also played a telecaster custom white with black srcatch plate for a couple of years in a couple of coventry blues bands-Jumpin Bad , Blue Dogs. sadly i swopped that too. Yeah shame some musicians get into smack ? - Topper etc.. never did myself but i had enuff probs with booze. never heard "See no Evil"?? Yes saw Free when i was a long haired freaky type 1972? - (blush..) Ive played a few acoustic shows-early Bonediggers -Threemenandblack. The PENQUINS A BEAUTY MUST CATCH ONE-SHAME ABOUT THE NAME THO.
But do Gretsches stay more in tune than Les Pauls? With those dodgy Bigsbys? Would it be sacrilege to take off the Bigsby trem and fit a Floyd Rose to a White Falcon? Les Pauls have had a history of dodgy tuning with the G-string but if you know of a good guitar customiser, it might be worth fitting it with Buzz Feiten tuning system, specially if you love the feel of a Les Paul - now you can improve the intonation & tuning stability of it.
