is the specials website representative of the specials? the forum in particular hardly seems to be about the specials at all, more about a few idiots indulging in their favourite past-times, which i'm sure J Arthur Rank would have approved of, but it seems a bit sad to me that such threads are allowed. this forum is much better.

It's a bunch of Specials fans having a laugh. How terrible Missus Indignant. Perhaps you should report us to your local old fart church.

Sorry to have misunderstood you all. I do know, Roddy, that ska obviously appeals to all kinds of people, but I thought The Specials' fans were mainly 'old farts', still worshipping at the 'church of misogyny'.
Isn't the whole point of 2-tone, to stand against racist and sexist rubbish. Most people in the ska world have managed to curb or at least drive underground their more racist leanings, so perhaps it's time to start working on your sexist nonsense, but then again maybe I'm just 'having a laugh'!

The Specials attracted politically and socially divergent fans, but you have to deal with it. I'm from the liberal side, but I have no problem with the right wing nut bars who smell like cheese. We get along just fine.

I personally would rather anyone right of center go and find another band.

well said Sir Skabby......but Hugh calls himself a liberal......well, i have always mistrusted 'liberals'....after all, if you have a foot planted firmly on either side of the fence, then you will most likely get your 'nuts' bruised during the straddling process....just 'havin' a laugh Hugh'!

But then a Nazi can say the same thing about you and you're nowhere.
Exposing ignorance and changing mindsets is the key. Killing people has never eradicated bad philosophy, it just puts up walls.

I was an Ian Dury fan, but I liked the Specials almost as much because they exposed the underbelly of English society in an equally explicit fashion with great music that made you miss the dartboard and hit the lamp instead.

We get along just fine. Being liberal in my book means allowing these sort of people to air their veiws. Thats wrong, they are not just 'nutbars' they are sick mindless thugs and have no place using a forum of any kind. Aahh, feel better now! I prefer this forum because it's far more sensible, don't you know!
