Hi Roddy can you tell me anything about The Cosmics because this band appears to be the missing link in 2 tone music because anybody I have spoken to about this band know nothing about it so maybe you can help fill in the blanks. img255.imageshack.us/img255/2131/thecosmicsnr5.jpgPaul

There was a ska band called the Cosmics I saw in London a couple of times around 1991-92, they played 60s style inc. a great version of the Skatalites' Freedom Sounds. They only released one 12" from what I know. I presume that's the same band

Not the same band, i think the cov group was a short lived ska-reggae band with a few Two tone blokes?

The Cosmics were put together to save the Tic Toc club in Coventry. They included according to the Cov Telegraph picture archive Jerry Dammers and I think John Shipley and other local musos. They probably only lasted one gig. The confusion arose when another pic from the archive showed Jerry, Roddy, Lynval, Aitch, Neol Davies and Rog Lomas outside the Tic Toc, it was also credited as the Cosmics in the archive, I assumed it was the same band, and no one picked it up in the pre-reads. I found out afterwards it wasn't the same band. Sorry for the confusion.

There seems to be a bit of confusion (also on Specials website) about The Cosmics. I was at the benefit gig that night. Indeed it was the same Cosmics as described by Roddub, I had also seen them a couple of times in London prior to the benefit gig. The set was completely Cosmic's originals apart from two songs. About 40 minutes in they introduced Jerry, Lynval, Noel and possibly Nev (twas a long time ago). The crowd went wild as they played Monkey Man & A Message to you Rudy. They left the stage and The Cosmics resumed their set. I saw them at least once more (London again) after this gig, there were no 2 Toners with them. The benefit gig was a one off appearance, and at no point were they part of a band called The Cosmics.
