'Lost In Music' by Giles Smith. I can see a lot of myself in that book. Not sure if that's a good thing or bad though.

Yeah, I like "Lost in Music" Too , a good tale about a guy's love of music and his struggle to be a musician (Strangely these days Giles is a journalist who writes about motors.) , another good read is his ex band mate Martin Newell's book "This Little Ziggy" about his time in the early 70's trying to make it in a glam band.

As a child i collected civil war soldiers made of plastic also chewing gum cards which featured pictures of American civil war battles. My mother loved "Gone with the wind" and all those totally wrong BOOKS WHERE THE SLAVES WERE ALL HAPPY AND SANG ALL THE TIME!! She knows better now.

Abraham Lincoln, when told that General Ulysses S Grant, his new commander-in-chief, was fond of the bottle, said: "If I knew his brand, I'd send a barrel or so to some other generals." After a childhood on the Kentucky and Illinois frontier, Lincoln assuredly knew all about the bottle and its dangers.
But of all the Union generals, Grant alone had proven consistently capable of planning and leading winning campaigns. Grant's appointment was the turning point of the Civil War. It was effective because Lincoln chose his general for his tested ability to win battles, and not for his sobriety.

Yeah I've got This Little Ziggy. It's a decent read. Keep thinking that Martin Newell will do a follow up one day about his time in The Cleaners From Venus.
