Roddy, what normally comes first for you when writing a song. Do you have the melody worked out first or the chords or riff? Do you have lyrical ideas kicking around for a while? When you present a song to the band, have you pretty much worked out how you want it to sound or does the band help arrange it?

Sometimes the riff- Ive got one called "trouble at home" which is on going if yer know what i mean. Pretty much finished, but my guys do their own thing with their own parts! unlike a band i was in many moons ago.

Do you find it hard not to repeat yourself or come across a riff and then realise it's another song by someone else?

Yeah i rip myself off occasionally..but thats youre sound like Bolan or the Stones. The trouble is that in the 50 odd yrs pop music and guitar bands have been going most combinations of chords and melodys have been used, also im always thinking of good Strawberry Saucetles for songs only to find out its been used before by someone else. Maybe Jerrys right and if you do something so odd and weird you have more chance of it being original -trouble is will anyone like something which isnt easy on the ear?
