I cant really comment I havent seen the DVD, but if it is like the Sunday Times C.D mix then I can see what Roddy is on about. When I was at the Leeds Millenium square gig with a friend of mine who is only the most Casual of Specials fan (hes got a best of, a cheap one at that), He was blown away by the guitar work, he turned to me at one point and said, "why cant you hear that on the records?", I said that it wouldve been nice too. So I dont think "the fans" would mind a proper full live mix, Ive said it before and Ill say it again, I can listen too the records at home, I want too see/ hear a LIVE gig, not a toothless cop out.

Well it seems the guys want a more reggae/pop comercial mix maybe? Or they dont understand what the Specials sound is either? It would be almost another UB40 type thing without the rock guitar.. or am i just blowin my own trumpet..

Not at all mate, its your distinctive sound and style that sets the Specials apart from most other bands of the same era. I hate to use the words "Ska band" because that would be simplyfying what the Specials were/ are. Chrissyboy from Madness has said in one or 2 interviews that he was always fed up that his guitaring was always mixed so low on Madness records, I just assumed he wasnt playing much in my naive youth, but when you hear live recordings you hear that he plays a hell of a lot of stuff and has his own style also, I prefer to listen to the live versions now from a guitarists point of view, it almost impossible to play along to a madness studio record as I have nothing too latch onto. Weve all said alot of things already about the DVD mix on here and I cant judge untill I actaully see / hear it, but Roddys sound on the last tour was incredible and trying to mix down any member of the group must feel like a kick in the teeth, I can understand balancing levels for the sake of a good mix, but pretending someone isnt there is too much. On the next tour Roddy, maybe you could phone your guitar parts in?, that way you wouldnt have to leave the comfort of your hotel room. On the commercial front...............pah, if I wanted a watered down SKA band I would be listening too Bedouin Soundclash.

Born out of punk and still very relevant too today, you only have to go too punk all dayers now to know that Rudies and Punks are very much intertwined and the Specials helped that mix along. Too me The Specials will always be timeless as I was very late at the feast due to my parents being selfish and not meeting years before and having me sooner, but through seeing my young cousins who are now into it through hearing me playing the songs, to them the songs couldve been recorded last week for all they know. Superior Force Of Nature Im in a sentimental mood today............I must stop listening to Ray Davies and put on something more uplifting and inspirational................

Well ive never been called fashionable before, but have spent many a happy day in and around Carnaby Street when Ive been down to the old smoke. In fact I bought my last Harrington there afew years ago. No Ive been lsitening too some of their B sides with one in particular a track called "Dont you fret" which I think would make a great little gospel tune if Ray ever decided to revisit it.

That's the good thing about being unfashionable - I can just wear the same old thing for years till it falls apart... ;D Does anyone have 'old faithful' jeans any more?
