American culture seems to value wealth over life and is permeating the globe

Sorry to hear that. I had a very good friend who I grew up with, same street, same schools etc, do that, still to the day think about things I could have tried to stop him.

Ive never understood suicide, what gets someone so down......the brain is amazing but can also be so destructive.

It's something that has troubled me since my mate's death. I met him on the train a couple of weeks before he took his life, I sat with him for a while and had a chat before moving off back to my Wife and oter friends. He ended his life a few weeks later on at a station which was on the same line, could I have done something? Deep down...I know the answer is no, but I do still wonder.

Ive never known anyone thats commited suicide, but I have a cousin who suffers from really dark depression, hes always hinting that hes going to take his life one day. Ive often asked him about it and he says thats its his way of knowing hes totally in control of his own destiny and when hes ready the "outside forces" wont be able to stop him. I try and tell him that there are people who will miss him and that what hes thinking about is mad, he says its because hes "mad" that he needs to end it all. Its scary and very upsetting to hear him talk. The thing is he knows hes ill and that he cant stop all the negative thoughts is the very reason why he sees death as a nice prospect. Hugh, we need a bit of Ian dury, name this tune in one. "The mind is a very precious flower That finds itself a strand amongst the weeds The cause and effect, is what you might expect And going round the bend is where it leads The elephant provides the ivory tower Is better left to wander too and fro But jumbo’s got no chance, when the poacher doth advance With a ghastly poison arrow in his bow"
