America has had a problem coming to terms with female rockers. It doesn’t matter if it’s Patti Smith, Yoko Ono or Courtney Love, many people — the press, especially — are frightened of a woman with a guitar and a microphone. As far as rock and roll goes, Wanda Jackson is possibly the earliest casualty of this phenomenon. Back in the 1950s, Jackson rocked the same stages as Elvis Presley and Little Richard, but today is a mostly forgotten icon. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=9DurZwIUpDA
