Cant really just say yes or no to this one really. Hes certainly a very big part of The Specials, but not as bigger part as the other 6 members put together. The fans want him in, he wants in, with issues settled(forgiveness? / apologies?) I'd guess the band would want him in? Heads ruling over hearts, maybe!?

I dont think Jerry can work without being the total boss -worst luck. And his idears are totally out there, and we think not in a good way... You have to ask yourself why all of us cannot/dont wont to work with him anymore, its not just me or any past arguements- its people who in the past have stood by him too.

Thats understandable. Went through an experimental stage myself. I ended up with hours and hours of material recorded over a couple of years and about one or two CD compilations worth of really good material. If only I could turn back that clock! Nowadays I find I get much more material and more variety from simple tunes with good ideas (hopefully).

Well i guess it's not for us to really say what individual band members want, though as a collective it appears that at least 6 out of 7 want a more democratic equal approach to matters within the band and what direction the music takes. If 6 out of 7 want the same thing, its a clear majority, no matter what any of us fans think or desire. If Jerry wants to control everything, it'll just recreate the problems which split the Specials up in the first place. Although he's every right to want to be progressive with the sound,it's not what the other guys want and to be honest, i don't think most fans out there would want to hear Concrete Jungle or Gangsters re-worked an a jazz muzak style, unless maybe as a one off bonus remix cd...but can you imagine trying to get excited about that in a 'live' performance ? To put it into some perspective i'll draw a parallel with another famous midlands band who have recently hit the headlines because of inner divisions. I'm not a big fan of UB40, though i like some of their early stuff, but i always liked their policy of sharing out everything monetary equally amongst the band. That was illustrated recently when Ali Campbell apparently wanted a bigger cut than his brother and the rest of the band, as he wanted to get his solo tour in first, and then claimed that his solo success would benefit UB40 and generate better ticket sales and profit. The majority of the band, including brother Robin were dead set against this and as a result, the majority won...Ali Campbell left with one other member of the band. Now i liked that solidarity and i think if you have that sort of solidarity within a band, its better for the band members in that they don't feel isolated, oppressed or shut out. I for one would be happy for the guys if they do come to an agreement with Jerry, i've every respect for him as a songwriter and musician, but they have to do whats best for the majority and indeed..themselves. I have'nt been on the forums much for a while so i thought i'd return with a biggie....
cheers
Daz
