Linda, I'm an open-minded person but I know my taste in music continues to grow the older I get. Don't understand folks who say "There's no good music anymore"-blah blah, whine whine. What kind of person can say that with a straight face? To me there's not enough time in my life to take in all the music I'd like to. As a teen I liked punk & 2tone first and most passionately. But I grew up on Motown& Philly Soul (via my sisters), 'old school' Hispanic music (my dad), and old-timey country & Johnny Cash (thanks mom!). I had close short hair, dressed & spoke..um..not like your typical Southern girl. Strange to some, cool to others, or 'd-i-k-e' or 'Spicd-i-k-e' to the diversity challenged I say if you choose to stand out, be ready for the reactions. I think the music one chooses and the message one takes from it can be the beautiful glue that cements your individuality. It can give courage, hope, and voice. It can be a home when you have none. So screw the judgemental. Willo, I've seen the d-o-c-u-m-e-n-t-a-r-y you mentioned & it's funny how culturally some things just stick. To most Americans, even younger, musically wise ska fans, skinhead=racist whitepower. Props to you Linda for enlightening people 1 or 2 at a time. Also, Paul, couldn't imagine folks messing with you even if you had a 3rd eye in the middle of your forehead ;D ;D p.s. Roddy, if I never lay eyes on you or The Specials, still like to say thank you for being part of my glue Lil

I love the way them old boys throw a set together at the last minute. Martin Scorsese was going nuts trying to get it out of them for the Shine a Light video.

Im sure you will mate..........I went too see Lemmy and his Motorhead chums the other night supported by the Desperate Daned in Wolverhamton last Monday and got too speak to Lemmy for about 2 mins, he still rocks like a Superior Force Of Nature even at his tender age, he shows no sign of giving up. Captain Sensible must be 56 now as I went too his 50th b' day party years ago in Yorkshire, he shows no sign of slowing down now. I turned 32 this year and I have no intention of slowing down ever, the only thing that puts a kibosh on me is the lack of money, but I intend too keep rocking till they are nailing down the coffin lid.

I've never really been one thing or another, I love ska best but have never been a skinhead, I dress how I want and like to have something a little bit different about me but that's it. Unfortunately we will always judge people for how they look, sometimes positively & sometimes not - the best we can do is constantly educate people as & when necessary in whatever way is appropriate - through music, talking to people, and opening their eyes to the fact that their first impressions and pre-judgements should always be subject to change.

Ive never really dressed like anything, when I 1st got into 2 Tone back as a teenager in 1992 I had the Crombie, the pork pie hat and a very battered old Ben Sherman that my uncle dug out of his cupboard left over from the time he was a rudeboy in '79. I never really kept it up much after that as I drifted between so many things like punk, metal, rock and roll and 60's pyschedelia, I always maintained a certain rude boy look but picked up little things from the music I was listening too also and that became part of my style. My style now is that Im still a magpie borrowing different looks, but the over all look is one of "shabby chic", Im quite happy with that. It keeps people guessing about what I like.
