As some of you may know my Dad has been ill recently, well its worse than we thought, sadly hes got terminal cancer, hes had it for some months now but like the stubborn man he is decided not to do tell anyone about the sever pain hes been in. Well sadly what started in his lungs, spread to his kidneys, onto his bones and now we find out its also in his brain. Hes sadly been diagnosed with days left, if you had told me on Monday last week that by Thursday of the same week Id be watching him die, I wouldve told you you were mad. But sadly thats the reality (grim though it is) me and my family are having to deal with. Ive had to get away for afew hours tonight, Ive been stuck in the hospital for 49 hours solid, tonight Ive had a whisky or 4, too try and calm me down, plus Ive been sticking on some really melancholy music also, as its sad I havent yet cried, Im too much in shock. Im having a couple of hours at home then Im back at the hospital.

Sorry to hear that. My grandfather and his brother and sister were like that. No moaning, lived into their late eighties and died quickly without lingering. His sister Lucy told her daughter in law that she'd better get to the hospital and her daughter in law knew there was something very wrong as she never complained. She was riddled with cancer and died within a week. The doctor said she would have been going through incredible pain.

Horace said to me in Finland "Roddy you realize you will die sometime soon" he meant we are all getting older and are not immortal - not as i thought for a moment as a comment on my life style..

Well the sad thing is my Dad is only 5 years older than you Roddy, thats what is really upsetting as everyone Ive spoken too now believes that 60 is not old these days and "hes too young" to go. Anyway hes moved into the Marie Curie hospice, I ve lived on 1 - 2 hours of sleep since last Wednesday when theis whole nightmare kicked off. This is going to sound really selfish, but Im hoping it wont be long for him now as the family is suffering the fatigue/ stress/ and emotional rollercoaster and hes suffering so much in pain.

My father died the other year, he was an alcholic. And like you said we kinda wished it could be over sooner than it was. Never really got on with him but he was proud of me to other people but rarely said anything to me personally.

My own Father dropped down dead out of the blue in 2001 he was only 63,i was lucky to spend the weekend with him but that was sheer luck but the thing that kept me going was that he saw his 3 grandaughters before he went.Death is never easy but i would say it would be better to go quickly and out of the blue.
