Stink is in pretty phenomenal shape however, and the rigours of touring might prove difficult for the Specials who only did it briefly when they were still in their twenties. yeah- it has to be thought out as touring knackered it all up last time. the last thing they want is to be stuck at the bar all day through boredom and stuff.

Lets hope they get it sorted out.
I really think it a great shame that The Specials haven't got it together, whether as a live / recording band or as a front for a historic era. Met a few of them and they are superb people. The Specials would sell out worldwide, but the minds & hearts have to be right & 100%.
All of them have to let go of past issues. Nothing can be changed there. Forgive each other and get back to where you belong.
Don't think Jerry Dammers deserves the full criticism of the limo post earlier. Must have been a massive task to organise and control, given the massive heights they reached. I don't think I know of anyone in music history who has formed a record label, with such an idenity, creating one of the greatest live bands ever, whilst writing & arranging most of the songs bringing education & political awareness to millions of people. To be at such a peak with Ghost Town, then to have the fb3/manager/producer & label carve it up behind your back, must have been very sore indeed. I'm positive Jerry D would be the first to admit mistakes he did make, but overall his achievements speak louder than words and he deserves a lot more respect than he gets, as does 2-Tone in general.
Anyway, hope your good & well Roddy.

As Lynval said The Specials need counciling. "Counciling" as in growing up in a council house? Couldn't agree more. Horace and Jerry always struck me as middle-class socialists.

I agree with 2R2T, all these Specials fans forums tend to do is criticise Jerry Dammers which makes me laugh, christ he was the one responsible for making them who they were but all people do is knock him (for his personality) while they lick other people's Rather Large Bottoms. Jerry obviously has concerns that the a reformed Specials wouldn't reach his high standards. And I can understand that...all you have to do is look at the 'Todays Specials' for proof of how badly wrong it could go. If they do reform, it should be right or not at all and as I said earlier...with some new songs and fresh ideas. Of course, the members deserve to make a few quid but first and foremost, this should be about the music and whether they can reach the standards that we're used to from the Specials.

The Specials made a great noise at the time that they were trying very hard to operate outside of the music industry norms. By reforming they are just adding themselves on to the endless list of those who try to rekindle what as a brief period in history.
The Specials: They came. They conquered. And they buggered off before it became boring.

I've got to wade in here.
I liked the Specials as much as anyone, but they were together for three years and produced two albums. Some of the rhetoric that goes on and on about them is perpetuating a bit of a myth. The problem seems to be simply conflict, egos and Beagles and nothing more. To attach this holier than Moses stuff about them is a bit much.

I spent most of the 80s + 90s trying to forget i was ever in the band, even to the point of denying it.

what made you change your mind and want to re-form the band as Specials Mk 2 in the 90's then? why do you think that incarnation of the Specials wasn't successful? do you think it would be more successful now, if you re-formed? sounds as though you have interest from the media again. has this influenced the rest of the band to get back together? will you record new stuff? jabberwocky

To be truthful, the M.K 2 thing came about after some of us backed Desmond Dekker. And suppose i thought the people who i didnt get on with wouldnt be there, also i was to sing most of the set with Nevelle. Successful- well we toured from 94-98 a tad longer than the original band. Mojo magazine are doing a feature on us all with interviews, maybe that will either put it back to bed or ....

Roddy...Does it not annoy you that the only time magazines get in touch with you is about the Specials and not what you are currently doing?

thank you roddy for your informative answers to my questions. a rare thing with pop stars these days! can you tell me when the mojo magazine feature will be out? is this just casual media interest, because the 30th anniversary is nigh or part of a positive PR campaign onslaught, on behalf of the specials? I noticed that Jerry Dammers has announced some gigs with Spatial a.k.a for next month. Is this his way of saying 'no' to a re-union or just another part of the campaign to get everybody talking about the specials before a re-union announcement?here's hoping for a positive outcome.
