in modern times, Supergrass always storm it up, I saw the Ordinary Boys supported by Kaiser Chiefs when they were unsigned, OB's had one single to their name, both played a blinder, shame Preston went all Hollywood on us.

lalala, I was talking about the Cars and being sarcastic, as your description of them made their performance sound less than thrilling. They were one of those pop bands that came out around the same time as the Knack and the term New Wave. I bought a copy of the Knack on a whim and regretted it. I hadn't even heard of them and it was on the top of my list as most embarrasing albums in my collection.

hugh: you are totally correct. the cars could have played a sound track whilst standing still on the stage... it was one of the most boring shows i've ever seen... the audience just sort of sat in their seats...
but the songs sounded great - just like the record! yes, the venue was a large arena...
i think wang chung opened for them - at least they bounced around a bit... (this was before "everybody wang chung tonight" was a hit... they were still in their "dance hall days") - oh, cos you know, that was the top hit of new wave (i'm totally kidding)

New Wave meant bland uniform fashion instead of DIY fashion from the bin.

"Levi and the Rockats" were great fun, they supported the Specials in the States on the west coast and the east and the yank Ska fans loved em! You wouldnt get that in England in 1980-81*
