Should of reheRather Large Bottomd it beforehand! I think that album and problems with the record company afterwards further messed Jerry's head up.

Is that something to do with "Thomas the Tank Engine"?

I didn't like Mor Specials at all either, and as a Specials album it still sucks, but it had a few moments: "Hey Little Rich Girl" and "Holiday Fortnight" were both strong tracks.
What a crawler, a? ;-)
BTW, who played sax on Braggin' & Tryin' not to Lie? Lounds like Little Legs Lee to me.

"i don't think ghost town is very good"... come on now...

Fair enough, jh, I've completely changed my mind now, you've convinced me. What's 'fanboy talk'? I don't know the Fortnight story, Roddy, but I won't bug you now, I'm sure I'll catch up sometime. (Guess: argument over vocals) What's wrong with Rich Girl? Guessing: did you want it a bit more boogie?

I have to say I like them both. But it took me a long time (as far as my memory can stretch back!) to get into certain tracks on the 2nd. However, I wasn't involved with my tunes being all altered! The 3rd LP (give it a mention!) wasnt my taste for years and years - different group / same name! But its a good LP (in my opinion) which grew. Though its too polished and lacks the 'spontaneity' and spirit of the first two. All I can say is I'm a real fan of the first 2 LPs - especially the 1st which is what I first got into anyway as a boy!

Ghost town was okay.. Well this my webb site if youre want to praise Jerry find his.. i don't think he has one... roddy, i love THE SPECIALS... all of them (you too. lol...)... to me it's sort of bigger than the individual members... together, unstoppable... re the OG line-up: the level of musicianship, songwriting, and presentation is unparalleled... from "gangsters" to "ghost town" related side note: saw a great, iconic, and internationally acclaimed canadian film (yes, there is such a thing) last week at the local cinematheque (goin' down the road, 1970, www.cinemathequeontario.ca/filmdetail.aspx?filmId=907). the director was in attendance and sort of belittled his work during his introduction (it's not digital, script problems, etc...). my friend leaned over and said, "it's funny when a director doesn't like his film as much as we do."...

I still remember buying 'More Specials' from Woolworths (RIP) and getting a free poster with the album as well as the single. Think I liked it more or less straight away. But as with you it took me awhile to get into 'In the Studio'. It was one of those albums that grows over time but it was a slow grower. These days I appreciate the album a lot more than I did back in 1984.

Bought the first Specials album from Woolies as the company were slow at letting the band have copies? I used to work in Woolies too- end of a Era* Never heard the "In the Studio" until recently.. when i begged our stuff on C.D. off E.M.I. Gave my copy to John Shipperly as he didnt have it and played all the tracks bar one.. Infact the whole concept of Mor Specials and In the dept was his but Jerry made it better by borrowing the idear....

Infact the whole concept of Mor Specials and In the dept was his but Jerry made it better by borrowing the idear.... Really? Sounds a bit to me like Dexys where Kevin Rowland "borrowed" the idea off Dexys co-founder Kevin Archer for the strings & brass sound after hearing a demo of his new band The Blue Ox Babes back in 1981. Dexys had a massive hit with 'Come On Eileen' and afterwards The Blue Ox Babes struggled to get a record deal as everyone said the sounded just like Dexys! They didn't release their debut single until 1988 but I've now heard that Kevin Archer gets some royalites off the 'Too-Ry-Aye' album. The Blue Ox Babes unreleased album will be coming out in 2009. Here is a clip of their debut single for those who've not heard them - uk.youtube.com/watch?v=JKUb7KorZfsI always think that Kevin Rowland & Jerry Dammers have a lot in common. Also The Special AKA 'In The Studio' & Dexys 'Don't Stand Me Down' albums took around the same length of time to record and both cost a small fortune.
